When October starts, every bump in the night makes you wonder if a witch is taking an evening flight. It’s a time for ghost stories, “Monster Mash” dance parties, and maybe even a few movies starring Jason Voorhees. There are so many things to do and different ways to spend Spooktober in Reno. Check out some of our favorite local fall hot spots.

Sierra Safari Zoo

Every weekend in October is Boo at the Zoo. There will be kid-friendly activities like a slide, hay maze, petting zoo, and more. Pro tip: Check out the Spookaroo at the Zoo event on October 30 and 31.

Adelin Family Farms

The family-friendly corn maze, pony/horse rides, pumpkin patch, and U-Pick sunflowers make the Fall Harvest Festival a must-visit, but the Corn Creepers Haunted Attraction and Zombie Paintball make Adelin Family Farms the perfect destination to get into the Halloween spirit.

PumpkinPalooza

Want a little adventure and an activity the whole family can get in on? Check out the Purple Pumpkin Pursuit presented by PumpkinPalooza. Register to receive a special Halloween-themed kit that comes with goodies and clues to help you solve the riddles, find the pumpkins around town, and win a great prize.

West Wind Drive-In

13 Nights of Fright is taking place October 19-31. West Wind Drive-In will be showing family-friendly Halloween flicks as well as some classic horror films. Take your family movie night to the drive-in!

Virginia City

As a city that wears its hauntings as a badge of honor, it would only make sense that they would go all out for Halloween. The month-long celebration is called Hauntober, and there are ghost tours, train rides, and more to enjoy.

Ferrari Farms

The Fall Festival at Ferrari Farms has everything you could ask for. From farm animals to visit to hayrides to hop on to zombie paintball to try, there’s no way your family can leave without smiles on your faces.

With just a few days before the streets are full of children and children at heart dressed up in their favorite costumes, it’s important to know where you can get all the candy you’ll need to get you through the cold months! Your neighborhood isn’t the only great place to go trick-or-treating this year; there’s also:

 

2nd Annual Halloween Hollow at Idlewild Park – Thursday, October 31 from 4-8 PM
This free event includes a haunted house for kids and adults, games, a costume contest for kids and pets, and candy at the Midway! You can also ride the Idlewild spooky train by donating two cans to the Food Bank or paying $2.

 

Trick or Treat in the Streets of the Museum – Thursday, October 31 from 4-7:30 PM
Special admission during this event is only $2, so come and enjoy the candy stations and games available at the National Automobile Museum.

 

Howl-O-Ween – Thursday, October 31 from 4-6:30 PM
Come to the Nevada Humane Society for safe trick or treating with lots of free treats for kids in costume. There will be Halloween music and decorations along with people and pets dressed up in costumes. Pets will be available for adoption at the event, so beware, you may just come home with a new furry goblin!

 

Reno Town Mall Trick-or-Treating – Thursday, October 31 from 3:30-5:30 PM
After you pick up the kids from school, head over to the Reno Town Mall for a little free trick-or-treating.

 

Reno Library Trick-or-Treating – Thursday, October 31 from 1-4 PM
Pick up a few books that have some great ghost stories for your family to read by the fire while showing off your costumes and collecting a little candy! The Reno Library is the perfect place to start your Halloween celebration.

 

Reno-Sparks Scheels Safe Trick or Treat – Thursday, October 31 from 4-6 PM
Walk around the Legends stores trick-or-treating and enter a fun costume contest. The contest will be held outside Scheels at 5 PM, with the winner receiving a gift card.
