If you’re missing Food Truck Fridays and wanting to reminisce on some of Reno’s favorite food trucks, you’re not alone. We’ve put together a list of some of the best food trucks to check out.

Paisan’s Old World Deli & Catering – Sandwiches, tacos, and pasta dishes make this food truck the perfect lunch spot. Check here for there current food truck location or visit their restaurant location at 6550 Longley Ln, Suite 110.
The Fix Falafel – This food truck is serving up tasty treats that are 100% vegan. They’re specializing in falafel and hand-cut fries! For updates on where they’ll be serving up their food, follow them on Instagram.
Java Ship Coffee – This mobile vegan beverage and dessert trailer serves a wide variety of locally roasted and organic espresso drinks, organic teas, and more. Check their Facebook page for updates on where they’re located.
Fuego Habanero – Taco trucks were the first ones to make food trucks so popular, and Fuego Habanero is known for its tacos and burritos.
Kika’s All Kine Grindz – Serving up authentic Island style BBQ and Hawaiian cuisine, Kika’s All Kine Grindz is bringing the aloha spirit to Reno.
Slater’s Ding-a-Wing – The award-winning wings have been a staple of Wingfest, and they continue to shake up the community with their wings, tenders, and sauces. Be sure to follow their journey on Facebook.
Big Blue Q of Tahoe – One of a kind menus with locally sourced produce and the freshest ingredients means food that is exceptional in taste. They can be found around town and are also available for catering, events, and private dinings. See where they’ll be next on Facebook.
Codfather – With a love for fish and chips and serving the people of Reno, the Codfather was born. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy fresh seafood, check out where the Codfather will be next on their Facebook page.

The Best Beaches in Tahoe, Reno, and Sparks

Mild summers, nearly 80% of the year is full of sunshine, and a generous number of outdoor activities make Reno one of the best places to live. As soon as the last bits of the chilly weather moves out, many are looking to break out the sunscreen, towels, and bathing suits for a much-deserved beach day. Below are some of the best beaches in Tahoe, Reno, and Sparks to check out this summer!

Kings Beach State Recreation Area – If you’re looking for a great family-friendly beach with some great shops and restaurants to stop in for lunch, Kings Beach is a great option. With a large stretch of white sand beaches and some of the warmest waters in Tahoe, you’ll love splashing around all day.
Sand Harbor State Park – Spend the day soaking up the sun in some of the bluest waters in Tahoe. Pack sandwiches, snacks, and drinks for a great beach picnic.
Hidden Beach – If Sand Harbor is a little too crowded for you, you may want to check out Hidden Beach. Several areas of this beach are only accessible if you hike in, but the remote beach has some great boulders for sunbathing and jumping into the beautiful waters.
Chimney Beach – Chimney Beach is known for the stone chimney that’s still there from an old caretaker’s cabin. With deeper waters and a challenging hike, it’s a great beach for those looking to burn a few calories while having a fun day on the beach.
Zephyr Cove Beach – Zephyr Cove is one of the larger and more popular beaches in Lake Tahoe. It’s a great place to gather with larger groups. Play a few games of beach volleyball, rent water equipment, and go boating while you’re at Zephyr Cove.
Nevada Beach – Nevada Beach has some great views, which makes it an ideal place to enjoy a picnic or go swimming with friends.
The Sparks Marina – The Sparks Marina has it all. There are walking paths, trees, and sandy beaches surrounding a 77-acre lake that are used for windsurfing, sailing, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, and boating.

Reno continues to draw in people from all over the world, especially as our city develops, and as we see companies open their doors. The Biggest Little City becomes a beacon to big businesses, small startups, and entrepreneurs at heart, but the move to a new city can be daunting. That’s why we’ve put together this checklist of things to do, places to visit, and experiences to make you feel like a Renoite in no time.

Kayak the Truckee River Whitewater Park – Or if kayaking isn’t your thing, grab your floaties and go tubing along the Truckee River!
Try out some of the local breweries and distilleries in the area – We recommend checking out 10 Torr Distilling and Brewing, Brasserie Saint James Brewing, and The Depot Craft Brewery Distillery.
Mountain bike the Flume Trail.
Participate in a Wine Walk.
Have a lazy day in North Lake Tahoe – Bonsai Rock, Sand Harbor, and Chimney Beach are great destination spots.
Watch the sunrise over Emerald Bay.
Participate in a bar crawl.
Have a ski/snowboard day, or at least sip some cocoa in a lodge – There are tons of resorts in the area including Donner Ski Ranch, Squaw Valley, and Mt. Rose.

The Ultimate Summer To-Do List

Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, summer is the designated season for fun, adventure, and family memories. Reno’s summer season may look a little different than what we’re used to, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a time to remember, especially if you set out to check off the items on our ultimate summer to-do list!

Create your own backyard Olympics – Set up backyard bowling, croquet, mini-golf, and cornhole, and have a gold-en time competing for a medal — pun intended.
Have a backyard movie night – Find a large white space or throw a sheet over your fence in the backyard. Then set up a projector to play your family’s favorite movies. Don’t forget the homemade snacks to much on!
Create your own waterpark – Set up an inflatable pool, slip ‘n slide, and sprinklers to keep everyone cool and having fun during the warmer days.
Build a birdhouse – It’s a staple of many summer camps to teach kids how to build a birdhouse and then decorate it. Spend a couple of dollars on a few birdhouse kits, and make them as a family.
Host an art competition: sidewalk chalk edition – Give everyone in your family a section of sidewalk or driveway to work on, a theme to work with, and a time limit, then see who can create the best piece of art.
Have your own summer concert – Break out the pots and pans, warm up those voices, and have a karaoke night. You may even be crowned the best performance of the night if you decide to be a one-man show who sings, dances, and plays the pans (makeshift drums).
Make your own Hot August Nights – With the recent news to postpone Hot August Nights till next year, it’s up to you to celebrate. Grab crepe paper, balloons, and all your favorite art supplies to decorate your bike, and create your own one-of-a-kind ride for people to admire.
Turn your cardboard boxes into beautiful creations – With a few cuts and colorful markers, you can turn your purchases into houses, cars, and planes.
Have a blind taste test of your family’s favorite foods – Whether your family loves potato chips, gummy bears, or popcorn, there are tons of varieties. Pick up a few different ones, then have the family put on a blindfold as you give them snacks to try and have them rank their favorites.
Camp out in the living room – Spend the day building an epic fort in the living room, then bring out the blankets and pillows for a family camp out complete with stories, snacks, and sweet memories.

The Discovery’s Learning at Home Resources

The Discovery Museum has always been a great place for educational resources to help students learn about the world and find a love for science. They have a Scratch Code Challenge that shows students how to program and awards prizes for the interactive stories, games, movies, and presentations you make. Take a deep dive into the ocean while watching all of the organisms swim, eat, and survive in the Wild Ocean. For even more helpful tools, check out The Discovery’s website.

Activities to Do at Home and Close to Home

Social distancing has been making headlines for days, and while we all may have to stay six feet from one another, there are still so many things you can do at home and around Reno! Take a look at some of our favorite ways to pass the time that will keep you a safe distance from one another.

Hit the hiking and biking trails.

The trails throughout the city offer some of the best views around, and the fresh air does everyone good when you’ve been cooped up for a few days. We recommend checking out the Wilber D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.

Take a virtual tour of famous museums.

If you love art, architecture, and culture but find it hard to travel to see all of the world’s most notable pieces of art, you can do it all from the comfort of your own couch. From the British Museum in London to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, these virtual tours are ready for you to explore.

Take an online workout class.

Since many gyms are closed nationwide, it’s important to still find a way to get your heart rate up and get in some active minutes. Your gym could be offering some great virtual classes for you to join in on, and there are even some YouTube tutorials on home workouts to try.

Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day are all around the corner. With the extra time you have, why not do a little online browsing of some of our local shops to pick out some gifts for your loved ones? A Christmas Story – The Musical | November 29-December 1
While the movie is a classic, the live musical is on a whole other level. Visit the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts to see what we mean. It’s a Reno holiday event you won’t want to miss.

Winter Dreams | December 6-22

39 North Pole Village | December 12-14
Holiday lights, photo ops with Santa, and The Griswold Challenge make this event a must-visit for any family. Be sure to stop by downtown Sparks during the middle of December.

Where to go Trick-or-Treating in Reno

With just a few days before the streets are full of children and children at heart dressed up in their favorite costumes, it’s important to know where you can get all the candy you’ll need to get you through the cold months! Your neighborhood isn’t the only great place to go trick-or-treating this year; there’s also:

2nd Annual Halloween Hollow at Idlewild Park – Thursday, October 31 from 4-8 PM
This free event includes a haunted house for kids and adults, games, a costume contest for kids and pets, and candy at the Midway! You can also ride the Idlewild spooky train by donating two cans to the Food Bank or paying $2.

Trick or Treat in the Streets of the Museum – Thursday, October 31 from 4-7:30 PM
Special admission during this event is only $2, so come and enjoy the candy stations and games available at the National Automobile Museum.

Howl-O-Ween – Thursday, October 31 from 4-6:30 PM
Come to the Nevada Humane Society for safe trick or treating with lots of free treats for kids in costume. There will be Halloween music and decorations along with people and pets dressed up in costumes. Pets will be available for adoption at the event, so beware, you may just come home with a new furry goblin!

Reno Town Mall Trick-or-Treating – Thursday, October 31 from 3:30-5:30 PM
After you pick up the kids from school, head over to the Reno Town Mall for a little free trick-or-treating.

Reno Library Trick-or-Treating – Thursday, October 31 from 1-4 PM
Pick up a few books that have some great ghost stories for your family to read by the fire while showing off your costumes and collecting a little candy! The Reno Library is the perfect place to start your Halloween celebration.

Reno-Sparks Scheels Safe Trick or Treat – Thursday, October 31 from 4-6 PM
Walk around the Legends stores trick-or-treating and enter a fun costume contest. The contest will be held outside Scheels at 5 PM, with the winner receiving a gift card.

Preparing for the Tahoe Ski Season

The first day of fall may have just passed, but with some of the first flurries being seen at Mt. Rose, people are already talking about the upcoming ski season. After receiving 493 inches at Mt. Rose and 623 inches of snow at Sugar Bowl Resort during the 2018 – 2019 season, it’s easy to see why there would be rumblings and rumors of what the 2019 – 2020 season holds for skiers and snowboarders alike. For a look at when the resorts around the area will be opening up for the season, check out the list below:

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe – October 25
As Reno’s go-to resort, Mt. Rose has put in a ton of money into bettering their ticketing system as well as their snow machines. $1.5 million was invested in on-mountain improvements, so check them out for yourself.

Boreal Mountain – November 8
Boreal has made a ton of updates that will allow them to offer hands-free ticketing and make checking in and getting on the lifts easier than ever. If you’re ever up near Donner Summit, be sure to check out these slopes!

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows – November 15
Time is of the essence, which is why Squaw Valley put in a $10 million Treeline Cirque chairlift to get skiers and riders to their destination faster than ever.

Heavenly Mountain – November 22
If you have an open Sunday, you’ll want to head to the resort straddling the Nevada and California border. With the amazing deals they offer for guests staying Sundays, you may just have to call into work on Monday.

Northstar California – November 22
Take a bite out of Northstar! This resort just outside of Lake Tahoe offers some great cuisine with an updated pub-style menu. Put in some time on the slopes and at the dinner table.

Kirkwood Mountain – November 27
If you like to go off the beaten path, ask about Expedition: Kirkwood. You’re sure to grab some great skills and explore some of the areas that aren’t open to just anyone.

Sugar Bowl Resort – November 29
Phase one of a large project to clean up the terrain and produce better snow has just wrapped. It’s part of a multi-year, $8 million project, so it’ll be interesting to see what this season has in store for visitors.

Diamond Peak – December 12
Put the snow quality at Diamond Peak to the test! The resort has added a new PistenBully 400 ParkPro snowcat and is unleashing four new TechnoAlpin TR8 snow guns to ensure everyone has a great season.

Tahoe Donner – December 13
Tahoe Donner is a classic and a great pit stop for anyone in and around Truckee to visit!

Reno’s Got Good Vibrations

There’s a rumble and then a roar, and before you know it, the streets are shaking with the sounds from several engines grumbling down the block. Everywhere you go, you’ll see, hear, and feel hundreds of motorcycles joining the cars along the streets and kicking off one of Reno’s favorite fall events — Street Vibrations!

The last motorcycle rally of 2019 is coming September 25 and the events will finish up on September 29. If you’ve been to Street Vibrations before, you know that the fall rally takes it to a new level every year. With six outdoor stages, there’s amazing live entertainment to keep you entertained and rocking out while you explore the more than 250 vendors spread throughout downtown Reno.

The event doesn’t stop there! Scavenger hunts and poker runs are also included in the lineup, as well as a spectacular fireworks display in downtown Reno. For the true bike lovers, there’s a custom bike auction, bike builder’s show and competition, and even a tattoo expo.

If you can’t make it to downtown Reno, there are even some events happening in Virginia City, Carson City, and the Harley-Davidson stores in the area! There are some great headliners coming into town just for the festivities including Grand Marshal Erik Estrada who will head up the “Police on Parade.”

No matter if you come to the event for the outdoor concerts and vendors or to participate in some of the other activities, be sure to marvel at the bikes that are incredible pieces of art. The Street Vibrations Fall Rally is just one of the events that makes us love Reno, and we hope you and your family get out to enjoy some of the festivities!
