Local Farmers Markets: Where to Get Fresh Foods in Reno

David Morris Group - Local Farmers Markets_ Where to Get Fresh Foods in Reno - Best Reno Real Estate Broker - Best Reno Realtors - Reno Homes - Reno Real Estate

Fall is coming to a close, and winter is breezing in, so Farmer Markets are closing down soon. Local vendors get together to sell items ranging from produce to handmade crafts and more. Here’s why you should shop at farmers markets and where to find these fresh treasure troves in and around Reno!

4 Reasons to Shop At Your Local Farmers Market

  1. Local food is better for the environment.
Compared to giant conglomerates, local food is, well, local, so it travels a shorter distance. Because of the lack of distance, there are fewer greenhouse gas emissions from truck exhaust or jet fuel.
  2. Farmers market produce tastes better.
Local food comes right off the vine and straight to your market. Can’t get much fresher than that! Compared to conventional grocery stores, the produce would have to travel further, so they have to pick the fruit before it’s mature so it can be mature when it arrives at the store. This means the produce did not reach its full potential for flavor or nutrients. Because of this, sometimes produce that has to travel far is usually genetically modified to travel better. Since they’re engineered to travel better, it sacrifices flavor instead.
  3. You support your local community.
Shopping at local farmers markets means you are directly supporting your community. Another plus is building a community in your neighborhood. Most of the time, people who work in the markets live locally.
  4. Your questions get answered.
Another great perk is being able to ask questions and get answers! Business owners are usually the ones at the tent, so they’ll know about their produce. Owners and farmers can answer questions about price and pesticides quickly rather than hearing no answer from a grocery store.

In the last few years, Reno has redeveloped the city, and because of that, it’s found itself on several national ranking lists for best cities in a variety of categories. The most recent ranking has placed Reno as one of the top cities for corporate relocations and expansion projects in the next year.

The current times have caused many families and businesses to reevaluate their circumstances and make changes. That includes corporations making decisions on whether to relocate to mid-size cities over big cities.

The Site Selectors Guild conducted a survey in order to help determine the new trends in corporate location strategy and named Reno as one of the 11 cities that will be a top destination for companies to consider.

The survey also pointed out the top five industries with the most project activity, which could indicate the types of corporations we see moving to the area. Those industries include biotech and life sciences, advanced manufacturing, food and beverage processing, transportation and logistics, and software and IT.

Reno’s geographic location, lower costs, and educated workforce have made the city a hub for technology companies and startups, and with this recent survey, we can only expect that to expand. Experts believe that this will bring in high-skilled, high-wage jobs to Reno in the next year.

The pandemic has highlighted that businesses and remote-workers are seeking out cities that are less congested, more affordable, and offer a high quality of life. Below are the cities named as the top destinations for new projects:

  • Boise, ID
  • Colorado Springs, CO
  • Columbia, SC
  • Columbus, OH
  • Greenville, SC
  • Huntsville, AL
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Raleigh-Durham, NC
  • Reno, NV
  • Tucson, AZ

We can’t wait to see what the next year has in store for The Biggest Little City and which corporations will benefit from Reno’s vast resources and drive amazing employment opportunities for the community. If you have questions about the benefits of living in Reno and our predictions for the local real estate market, contact the David Morris Group. Summer is just around the corner, and as the designated season for cookouts, BBQ, and backyard hangouts, it’s only fair to know where you can find the best burgers around town. Let’s be honest, there will be days where you don’t feel like grilling, or you forget about what you’re grilling and can’t serve the charcoal ribs and hot dogs to your family – you know who you are – so have these burger spots in Reno in the back of your mind this summer.

Juicy’s Giant Hamburgers

If you’re a fan of the classics and like to know where you can get an old-fashioned, delicious burger, Juicy’s Giant Hamburgers never disappoints. They have placed in one or more “Best of” contests almost every year since they opened in 1982. Check out their S. Wells and S. McCarran locations.

Beefy’s

Beefy’s menu is iconic, and they’re known for more than just their amazing burgers. With locally sourced ingredients and inventive creations, Beefy’s is a must-try. Don’t believe us? Just check out The Moo, The Cluck, and The Oink or the Famous Chili Cheese Omelette.

Lucky Beaver

Lucky Beaver has been a fan favorite for great burgers and cocktails since they got their start nearly a decade ago. Their burger patties are made from chuck roast and short rib and cooked on their custom grill, making them famous and unlike anything else you’ve tried before. Everything about the Lucky Beaver’s menu is one-of-a-kind.

The Little Nugget Diner

No burger list would be complete without the diner that made the Awful Awful Burger a Reno staple. You’ll find a lot of imitation Awful Awfuls in the city, but why not check out the restaurant that made it famous?

New Event Venue Being Added to the Neon Line

David Morris Group - New Event Venue Being Added to the Neon Line - Best Reno Real Estate Team - Reno Events - Reno Growth

The Reno Neon Line continues to revamp much of the city and bring in new additions that brighten and liven up the West Fourth Street corridor. Now the group in charge of the project has a new event venue being added to the Neon Line to begin working on.

The venue is called Sands Connect and has already begun construction between the Sands Regency hotel-casino and Gold Dust West. The goal is for Sands Connect to meet the growing demand for residents and visitors to have a central event space for them to gather for things like food truck festivals, exhibits, farmer’s markets, etc.

Sands Connect will have a festival tent as well as an open promenade with a picnic area to encourage people to spend time in the area. There will be an outdoor stage, a beer garden, and the historic Nystrom House that was moved from its previous location will be incorporated into the plans for the venue. Currently, the Nystrom House is expected to be turned into the main hub for guests to grab a drink or a bite to eat at events.

Just as the Sands Connect is honoring the history and revitalizing the Nystrom House, the group in charge is looking to continue to incorporate parts of Reno’s past by tying in several classic neon signs that were once seen along the streets of the city.

By next year, the event venue hopes to be a part of dozens of community events, and Sands Connect is taking charge of that goal by hosting a variety of events in the coming months. Below is a list of some of the events scheduled for Sands Connect in 2020:

  • June 5 – 7: Reno Art Fest at Sands Connect
  • July 3 – 5: Red, White, and Brew at Sands Connect
  • August 6 – 9: Sierra Nevada European Car Festival at Sands Connect
  • August 28 – 29: Camp Tiny Houses at Sands Connect
  • September 4 – 6: Labor Day Weekend Party at Sands Connect
  • September 7 – 9: Playa Transition at Sands Connect
  • September 11 – 12: Little Hero’s at Sands Connect
  • September 19 – 20: Taco Fest at Sands Connect
  • September 25 – 27: Street Vibrations at Sands Connect

If you’re curious about what the recent changes along the West Fourth Street corridor have done for the real estate market and your home’s value, contact the David Morris Group at (775) 828-3292. We’re always happy to share our insights and give you a quote on what your home is worth.

Inside our Reno Food Adventures

No matter what kind of food you’re craving, Reno has it in spades. New restaurants are springing up before our eyes, so to keep up with the changing trends, we’ve gone on a few food adventures. We’re here to give you an inside perspective of the Rattlesnake Club and Von Bismarck.

David Morris Group - Inside our Reno Food Adventures - Rattlesnake Club - Reno Foodies - Best Reno Restaurants - Reno Real Estate - Reno Homes

Last summer, Rattlesnake Club opened its doors at 606 West Plumb Lane with a promise to deliver a culinary experience with a seasonal menu, original recipes, and a flavor profile that will have every guest singing its praises. With an on-site greenhouse and freshly roasted coffee, there was a ton drawing us to check out what they had to offer.

David Morris Group - Inside our Reno Food Adventures - Rattlesnake Club - Reno Foodies - Best Reno Restaurants - Reno Real Estate - Reno Homes

After looking through the menu, we can tell you that there are some fun options, and their cocktail list would make them the perfect spot to catch up with friends over dinner and drinks. While our experience got off to a rocky start, Rattlesnake Club quickly turned it around, and the kale salad and soup we ordered were wonderful. We’re already looking forward to going back for dinner.

David Morris Group - Inside our Reno Food Adventures - Von Bismarck - Reno Foodies - Best Reno Restaurants - Reno Real Estate - Reno Homes

Much like Rattlesnake Club, Von Bismarck opened its doors to the public last summer on Wells Avenue. With Eastern and Northern European traditions and a love for modern flair, Von Bismarck’s goal was to combine the two schools of thought for a completely unique dining experience. The communal seating and family-style servings are in place to get you to connect with those you’re dining with and leave with new friends and even better memories. The idea of sinking our teeth into traditional German cuisine brought us right to one of Von Bismarck’s tables.

David Morris Group - Inside our Reno Food Adventures - Von Bismarck - Reno Foodies - Best Reno Restaurants - Reno Real Estate - Reno Homes

Everything was beautifully presented, and we had the opportunity to sample a variety of small dishes. The items that stood out to us were the house-made pretzel, which is worth every carb-filled bite, and the cheesy spätzle puts any mac and cheese recipe to shame. The interior is cozy and inviting, and we’re looking forward to checking out the outside dining area and playspace when it’s open.

We’re wishing immense success to both of these wonderful restaurants, and if you ever need advice on anything from where to go for dinner to what changes we predict will happen in the Reno real estate market, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can be reached at (775) 828-3292 anytime.

David Morris Group Reno Becomes a Hub for Entrepreneurs and Remote Moguls Best Reno Real Estate Broker Reno Business Growth

It’s becoming more and more common to hear of people working from home, and as that trend expands, so does the number of entrepreneurs starting their own businesses and looking for spaces to house them and their employees while they’re in the startup face. Seeing this need for a startup haven, the idea for Reno Hive was built.

The Reno Hive is the latest coworking space to open in downtown Reno and features 5,000 square feet of Class A office space. Located in the Arlington Towers, the office includes 2,000 square feet for community space, six cubicles, six offices, and two state-of-the-art video conference rooms.

With the increase of homegrown startups making the venture to become successful businesses on top of the nearly 100 companies that have relocated or expanded to Reno-Sparks in the last three years, the timing for a new coworking space couldn’t have been better.

The Reno Hive didn’t just want to be a standard coworking space, though. They took it a step further and used innovative technology that offers some great amenities to those using the space. With meditation pods, hammock chairs, community bikes, and float tanks coming soon, Reno Hive appeals to a wide audience.

Membership includes access to the meditation pod, float tanks, coffee, printing, high-speed internet, conference rooms, community bikes, free parking, and 24/7 availability in case you decide to burn the midnight oil!

The coworking membership is $250 per month, while semi-private offices and cubicles run about $450 per month. For businesses that aren’t looking for a ton of space to host as the headquarters while they get the company off the ground, this is a great choice. For those in the creative industry looking for a place with great energy and unrestricted wi-fi access, you’re sure to see some great ideas come to life here.

We look forward to seeing what new innovations and companies will come out of Reno Hive as well as how the coworking spaces evolve to encourage people to use their buildings. It’s a time of growth in Reno, and we’re happy to give our insights into what changes like this will mean for the area. Don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions about the Reno-Sparks area.
